Three quarters of sales are of Premium version

Vista sales top 40 million

Some sources have been keen to suggest that Microsoft’s new OS has elicited a luke-warm response, but with sales of over 40 million since its release at the end of January, Windows Vista has enjoyed a strong debut.

Speaking at a company conference in LA, Microsoft owner Bill Gates said he was “really thrilled at how this has come together”, adding that one of the reasons for the strong sales was that consumers are looking to increase the amount of digital media they use, something that is central to Vista’s offering.

Microsoft also added that 75 per cent of Vista’s sales have been accounted for by the more expensive Premium version.
