The Sunday Telegraph has claimed that BT will later this week announce that its total broadband user base in the UK has reached 3.6 million, thanks to the additional 200,000 subscribers that have joined the firm in the last three months.
Channel Register reports that this figure takes BT past Virgin Media’s most recent user numbers of 3.4 million, with new users in the last three months totalling just 97,600.
Whilst Virgin instantly became the largest internet provider upon its purchase of both NTL and Telewest last year, the cable firm has struggled in the wake of its legal dispute with Sky TV.
As well as rivalling Virgin’s broadband service, BT is also preparing to launch its own TV service, with the marketing drive for the BT Vision launching last week.
