In a press release that reads more like a Christmas circular, the parent company of PC World, Dixons and Currys has sent out a summary of what it’s been up to in the last 3-6 months.
It appears that little Johnny – otherwise known as Dixons – has been doing jolly well at online school. In the first half of the financial year 2006/07, Dixons.co.uk sales performance exceeded DSG’s expectations, delivering a growth of 134 per cent sales and making DSG very proud.
PC World has apparently been playing very nicely with Vodafone and they have agreed to share their toys in order to support small businesses. Vodafone Connectivity Centres are to be opened in 30 PC World stores, with potential roll-out to further stores.
Meanwhile Tech Guys seems to have been a big hit with the other mums, as the majority of its callers are women, many of them “cyber-mums”. Apparently the digital support rush-hour is 4pm and most technical support is required on a Monday. The highest per capita support requirement is in Brighton, where one in 16 residents called the TechGuys in the first three months of 2007.
Of course it didn’t forget about little Currys, who’s really blossomed since it stepped out of Dixons shadow. It is now trialing mobile communications zones in Currys stores as convenient alternative to High Street mobile phone outlets, although it’s not clear how happy The Link is about this.
All in all it’s been a great year for the DSG family and it sincerely hopes everyone else is as happy and successful as it is. It hopes we can meet for dinner soon as it’s been sooo long and we’ve got loads to catch up on.
