Pre-launch testing of the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX suggests little improvement over 2900 XT.

Leaked top-end R600 benchmarks disappoint

Website Daily Tech continues to be a source of leaked R600 details, this time bench-testing the flagship 2900 XTX card.

Compared with Nvidia’s top-end card, the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB, it consistently delivers fewer frames per second on a number of games over a number of resolutions.

In fact it didn’t seem to offer much improvement over the 2900 XT, which the site had already benchmarked, and in some cases offered fewer frames per second than its lower-end sibling.

Some contributors to the sites forum, however, remain unconvinced about the accuracy of the bench-marks and conditions under which the testing took place.

If the 2900 XTX is significantly inferior to the 8800 GTS, that will put a significant dampner on the May R600 launch, especially with Nvidia allegedly due to launch the 8800 ultra at the same time.
