Further details of the new ATI graphics cards emerge ahead of the official launch.

New ATI benchmarks start to leak out

While AMD/ATI entertains the world’s press in Tunisia, not everyone appears to be bound by the inevitable non disclosure agreements.

Website Daily Tech has got hold of a Radeon HD 2900 XT, expected to be the second best performing of the new family of graphics cards.

The site compares the HD 2900 XT with Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GTS. Apparently the 2900 has 320 stream processors, compared to the 8800’s 96 and has taken a different approach to its unified shader design.

On the benchmarks themselves, the 2900 consistently provided more frames per second on a number of games and achieved a 3DMark06 score of 11447 compared to the 8800’s 9836.

The cards are due to launch in mid-may, with the HD 2900 XT expected to be priced at the same level as the GeForce 8800 GTS.
