Adobe doubles price for UK

Adobe Systems is charging significantly more for Creative Suite 3 in the UK than in the US. The cost of upgrading to the new programme from Creative Suite 2 costs $471.90 in the US, while the same transaction will cost UK customers £546.38 – which is equivalent to around $1080.

While Britons have been forced to come to terms with the fact that they often pay double for equivalent products compared to the US, the UK pricing of Creative Suite 3 represents a mark up of almost 130 per cent.

“We set pricing in each market based on customer research, local market conditions and the cost of doing business, the EU has 10 major languages, 4 major currencies, the costs of doing business in European markets are significantly higher per unit of revenue than in the US,” Adobe told The Register.

“It is worth pointing out that Adobe’s customers set high expectations in terms of seminars, training, events and value added reseller channels. We have a long history of serving our customers in local markets the way they want to do business. We therefore incur these additional local costs and have to reflect them in our business model.”
