The titles, which were developed by white-label software developer Formjet, will be available in the middle of April in 160 of Wollworth’s 800 stores.
The range will be made up of seven programmes including internet security, antivirus, word processing, photo editing, backup and edutainment software.
Formjet, which developed a similar range of home software to Tesco last October, will also provide a white-label web site to support the software.
The internet security and antivirus titles come with six and 12 month licences, which will give Woolworths recurring revenues when they are renewed.
"We are delighted to be working with Formjet on this key initiative for Woolworths,” said Woolworths trading manager Gerry Berkley. “It is always our aim to provide our customers with great value and this new range of utility products will allow our customers a low entry price point into an expanding home PC software market."
Formjet director Graham O’Reilly added: "The range of the products is in line with Woolworths’ target market. It is user-friendly, and the packaging uses bright, friendly styling. It’s pretty radical to have security software on a six-month license, and the products will have a radically lower price-point than the market leaders."
The move follows a dramatic fall in yearly profits for Woollworths earlier this year, dropping to £16 million from £61.5 million for the period ending February 3rd.
Elsewhere, the retailer has partnered with online publisher Reevoo to source and upload customer reviews on Woolworths.co.uk. Reevoo currently provides a similar service for Dixons, Comet, Jessops and Orange.
