One of Europe's largest system builders - Medion - is to pre-install BullGuard security software in all its new PCs, challenging the long standing dominance of US giants Symantec and MacAfee.

BullGuard into Europe with Medion deal

The move marks another coup for Danish upstart BullGuard, which has taken the security software market by storm since it was founded in 2001.

Bullguard is already pre-installed in many PCs produced by UK system builders, including Evesham, Mesh and Hi Grade. Its adoption by Medion, which counts supermarket giant Aldi among its retail partners, marks a significant step in Europe.

Heini Zachariassen, CEO of BullGuard, spoke exclusively to PC Retail to announce the news: "For BullGuard it moves us up to a different league, it shows that we can handle system builders of any size."

"In Europe the balance is changing, the system builders and the channel in general are tired of dealing with slow and heavy US corporations. They prefer to deal with vendors who listen to them and also have the speed that we can deliver. We can make adjustments in the product within days, we don’t have to go over the Atlantic to change a couple of lines of code," he said.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether a European brand can break the stranglehold US based companies have with the world’s biggest system builders.
