Show's risqu? content "not a fit with Windows brand"

Microsoft drops Family Guy spin-off sponsorship

Microsoft has cancelled its sponsorship of a television spin-off of the US cartoon Family Guy, over concerns about the content of the show.

According to BBC News, the software firm was due to sponsor Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show on 8 November, to promote the launch of Windows 7.

However, after watching a recording of the show, Microsoft decided "the content was not a fit with the Windows brand", as it reportedly contained jokes about incest, deaf people and the Holocaust.

The one-off special, to be shown on the Fox network, is part of a night of programmes honouring Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and co-stars Alex Borstein – one of the Family Guy voiceover artists.

"We continue to have a good partnership with Fox, Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein and are working with them in other areas," Microsoft said in a statement.
