JC‑Electronics has introduced a new Buyback scheme designed to help companies dispose of disused industrial electronics more easily, while generating income from equipment that would otherwise be scrapped.
The initiative removes the need for businesses to pay for the responsible disposal of obsolete or broken components in line with WEEE regulations. Instead, JC‑Electronics will visit customer sites, assess items set aside for scrappage, and offer a purchase price for reusable equipment.
Dan Jones, Buyer at JC‑Electronics, says many organisations underestimate the hidden costs of disposal.
“Traditionally, companies have discarded old industrial electronics when they become surplus to requirements or superseded with upgraded components – often organising skips and additional overtime to manage the process,” he explains. “However, the costs of this can escalate. For example, it may cost £20 to dispose of an old computer monitor, but if you have 150 monitors to dispose of, that’s £3,000 of overheads.
“With our new Buyback scheme, we pay customers for the privilege of taking away equipment they would otherwise throw in a skip. This means they avoid the hassle of disposal, contribute to their ISO 14001 environmental targets, and generate income into the bargain.”
Once collected, items are shipped to the company’s refurbishment centre in the Netherlands, where they undergo a full technical overhaul. This includes detailed assessment, component replacement, rigorous testing, and the removal of any existing programs so units are clean and ready for redeployment.
Alongside the Buyback scheme, JC‑Electronics has also introduced a cashback option for customers ordering replacement items through its web shop. By selecting the ‘Cashback’ option at checkout, customers can trade in their old unit and receive a refund or credit once the item has been accepted by the company’s experts.
Jones says the two initiatives strengthen the case for choosing professionally refurbished equipment.
“Professional refurbishment is now an excellent choice for many businesses, due to the fact it involves standardised processes, component replacement, comprehensive testing, and quality assurance protocols to our JCertified standards. Our Buyback scheme and cashback option just add to its attractiveness.
“With many manufacturers still paying to dispose of valuable equipment, the two schemes offer a unique way to cut costs, generate revenue from old assets, and reduce environmental impact. They really are a win‑win, and I can’t wait to see all our customers start to take advantage of them.”
