Details of a new Surface device from Microsoft has reportedly been leaked in an email obtained by The Verge.
Codenamed Andromeda, the tablet is said to include a dual display that can be folded up, making it a ‘pocketable’ Surface device.
The publication says that Microsoft believes Andromeda will create a “new and disruptive” device category to influence the overall Surface roadmap and “blur the lines between what’s considered PC and mobile”.
The Andromeda device is reported to still be in the development stages and will have a wraparound display that bridges the gap of the hinge when it’s fully opened.
“We understand current engineering samples of the pocketable Surface look identical to the 3D concept created by David Breyer,” said The Verge. You can see the Breyer’s concept here and in our main image.
It is thought that there will be a stylus with the new tablet, so that once folded over, the device can be used like a book, with the “pen” being used to capture digital ink.
Believed to be a response to its failures with Windows Phone devices, an internal document describing the device said it will “blur the lines between mobile and stationary computing”.
If the reports are true, we could be seeing the launch of Microsoft Andromeda Surface before the end of the year.
