New figures show that the latest Windows 10 update is rolling out very quickly.
According to AdDuplex – an organisation which analyses data collected from Microsoft Store apps – the April 2018 Update has been delivered to 50 per cent of Windows 10 PCs since it launched a month ago.
That’s an impressive feat, considering that the Fall Creators Update, which was released in late 2017, took two months to reach the same percentage of Windows 10 PC. The Creators Update previous to that, which launched about a year ago, took three months to reach half the Windows 10 PCs out there.
Microsoft has made a concerted effort to streamline the rollout of its updates and these figures show that those efforts are working. However, recent reports of forced updates have emerged that have caused a few issues for certain devices.
Affected devices and products include some Alienware laptops, SSDs, antivirus conflicts along with Microsoft’s own Surface devices. As a result, Microsoft has had to put a variety of blocks in place in order to the affected devices from being updated.
AdDuplex also revealed the stats of Microsoft’s Surface devices which are running the new update. Around 65 per cent of Surface Pro 4s, and over 70 per cent of Surface Books and Surface Pro 3s have been updated. All of the hybrid devices in the range have an adoption rate of over 50 per cent except for the ageing Surface 3 and the newer Surface Laptop (which is oddly on 37 per cent).
The Surface Studio all-in-one was not included because, according to AdDuplex, its user base is so small that no meaningful interpretation of the figures could be made. We already knew that the niche Surface Studio isn’t flying off the shelves, but despite mostly positive reviews maybe it is selling even slower than previously considered.
