Dixons Carphone snaps up Halfords’ CFO to be group finance director

Dixons Carphone has snapped up Halfords’ Chief Financial Officer as the retailer continues to shake things up at the top.

Jonny Mason will assume the position of group finance director when he starts life at Dixons Carphone. It is the latest shake up at the top of Dixons Carphone following the news that long-standing CEO Seb James would be making way for Alex Baldock in the coming weeks.

Mason brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been CFO at Halfords since 2015 and standing in as interim CEO at the company between September 2017 and January this year. Prior to that Jonny was CFO of Scandi Standard AB, a Scandinavian company which successfully listed in Stockholm in June 2014. Jonny’s early career included CFO at Odeon and UCI Cinemas, finance director of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets and finance roles at Shell and Hanson plc.

Ian Livingston, Chairman of Dixons Carphone, said: “The Board and I are very pleased to welcome Jonny Mason to the Group. Together with Alex Baldock, we now have a great new team to lead Dixons Carphone.”

Mason himself added that he is ‘thrilled to be joining Dixons Carphone’ He said: “The business has undergone a tremendous journey over recent years and is well placed to meet customers’ ever growing and complex needs for technology. I have experienced first-hand as a customer the quality of our shops, product and services, from my time living in both the UK and Norway, and I feel proud to join the Group to work with Alex, the Board and our great team of colleagues.”

Meanwhile Alex Baldock, incoming Chief Executive Officer of Dixons Carphone, added: “I am delighted to have Jonny by my side. He has an outstanding track record and brings the experience and qualities we need to take Dixons Carphone into the next phase of its transformation.”

It is the latest change of Dixons Carphone with a number of high-profile incomings and outgoings in recent months. In January Humphrey Singer announced that he was standing down as finance director. A month earlier, the company announced that it was appointing a new chairman of its Carphone Warehouse arm, as it looks to shake up its mobile division. Stepping down in his role as deputy CEO and board director of the company, Andrew Harrison assumed the role of chairman of The Carphone Warehouse Limited with immediate effect.
