iPhone 8 images leak

While there’s been much discussion about the upcoming iPhone 8 very little has been about how it looks, with most of the speculation being on how it could potentially be the first mainstream smartphone to surpass $1,000 or how the release schedule has apparently been set back due to supply shortages. Now we have what might be our best look at the new device – or at least renders of it based on CAD blueprints that made it out into the wild.

Showing the phone from all angles, the images from MySmartPrice by @OnLeaks (one of the more reputable sources for leaks) highlight that it will have a metal frame and a shiny glass back which is a drastic departure from the all-metal body that the previous few iterations of the iPhone have sported.

One of the most interesting aspects of these photos is the vertically aligned dual-lens camera. Apple introduced dual-lenses for the iPhone 7 with a horizontal setup. It is believed that the new camera setup could help with rumoured augmented reality features. It also appears that there are two front-facing cameras.

Asides from the glass body, the phone looks like what we’ve come to expect from Apple: two speaker grilles, a Lightning port on the bottom, a power button on the right and the volume buttons on the left.

However, the renders show the phone to have dimensions of 143.5 x 70.9 x 7.7mm, slightly bigger in all respects than the 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm iPhone 7, and marginally smaller (but still thicker) than the iPhone 7 Plus. What you’ll get for the trade-off though is a larger display than either phone, with a 5.8-inch display. The larger display will apparently be achieved by removing the home button and having an all-screen front akin to Samsung’s recently released Galaxy S8. Apple will hope that it can achieve what Samsung was unable to by incorporating the fingerprint scanner into the display.

We will have to wait until the iPhone 8 is officially revealed by Apple before we find out just how accurate these images are.
