Last week at CES we saw Razer reveal its show-stealing triple-screened monster (in a good way) of a laptop, Project Valerie, among others, but things have taken an unfortunate turn as company CEO Min-Liang Tan confirmed that two of its concept products were stolen from its booth on the last day of the show.
"I’ve just been informed that two of our prototypes were stolen from our booth at CES today," Tan wrote on his Facebook page. "We have filed the necessary reports and are currently working with the show management as well as law enforcement to address this issue."
The CEO did not confirm which products were stolen, but the company built its CES presence around its new Chroma projector – dubbed Project Ariana – and the aforementioned Project Valerie.
This is not the first time that the company has been a victim of people thieving its concept devices. Back in 2011, two experimental Blade prototypes were stolen from Razer’s R&D lab in San Francisco. In his Facebook post, Tan stated that it could be a case of "industrial espionage": "At Razer, we play hard and we play fair. Our teams worked months on end to conceptualize and develop these units and we pride ourselves in pushing the envelope to deliver the latest and greatest," said Tan.
"We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously – it is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us. Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart."
