Nvidia’s new GTX 1080 GPU is officially launching on Friday (May 27th), and while pre-orders sold out within minutes on Amazon, rumours are already circulating about even more powerful graphics cards from the firm.
It seems the 10-series of GPUs wont stop with the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, as a leaked chart from ChipHell suggests a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, as well as a new GTX Titan, are both in the works.
The two faster graphics cards will be based on upcoming Pascal GP102 silicon.
According to the chart, the fully unlocked version of GP102 appears to be included with the Titan, boasting 3,840 CUDA cores – up from 2,560 in the GTX 1080.
Both the 1080 Ti and Titan are rumoured to have the same clock speeds and memory systems (GDDR5X), as well as the same TDP of 250W. For high-compute environments, the Titan promises a huge 24GB of VRAM as opposed to the 1080 Ti’s 12GB.
As well as these two faster graphics cards, it is thought that NVIDIA will launch a GTX 1060.
The 1060 appears to use the same GP104 GPU as the higher-end models, but could end up with only 1280 stream processors, fewer texturing resources, and fewer ROPs compared to higher models in the line.
It is rumoured to be clocked at about the same speeds as the GTX 1070, and it could have a 192-bit path to 6GB of GDDR5 memory, down from the GTX 1070’s 256-bit interface and 8GB pool of RAM.
ChipHell didn’t speculate about pricing or timelines for the rumoured cards, so make sure you check back to PCR for any further updates.
NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 GPU is one of the most hotly anticipated components of 2016. It the first gaming GPU designed for the 16nm FinFET process, which uses smaller, faster transistors that can be packed together more densely.
The GTX 1080 sold out of pre-orders on some of biggest tech etail sites within minutes.
On Amazon, EVGA’s first GTX 1080 model sold out in six minutes, whereas ZOTAC’s version sold out in 12 minutes.
