Phil Elford replaces Juliet Ward as Argos tech trading manager

Phil Elford has been named Argos’ new technology trading manager.

He replaces Juliet Ward, who took on the role in early 2014 and has now moved over to become trading manager for video games, white goods, photography and sat nav.

Elford will lead the tech buying team, covering computing (tablets, PCs, e-readers, print and office), as well as smartphones and smartwatches.

Elford started out as a category buyer for computing peripherals and accessories at Comet back in 2008, before being appointed computing hardware category manager at the retailer three years later.

He has also worked at Carphone Warehouse as head of accessories, tablets and broadband, and most recently led the home and utility commercial teams at Argos’ sister company Homebase.

Argos and Homebase are both part of Home Retail Group.

Argos saw a drop in sales back in September, blaming the performance of a number of key electrical categories.
