Apple is offering customers free 3TB hard disk drive (HDD) replacements on various iMacs following the discovery that some might fail under ‘certain conditions’.
Customers who purchased a 27-inch iMac between December 2012 and September 2013 are being contacted by the firm for a replacement.
Apple is also calling for customers to contact an Apple store if they believe they have been affected.
Apple said in a statement: “Apple has determined that a very small number of 3TB hard drives used in 27-inch iMac systems, may fail under certain conditions. These systems were sold between December 2012 and September 2013.
“Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected hard drives free of charge.
“Apple is contacting affected iMac owners who provided a valid email address during the product registration process to let them know about this program. If you have not been contacted, but think you have a 3TB hard drive, you can enter your serial number below to see if it’s part of this program.”
Customers will have until December 19th 2015 or until three years after the device was purchased to get the replacement.
Plus, replacements will also be offered if the iMac is out of warranty or if customers have already replaced the hard drive themselves.
This news comes after rumours revealed that Apple was planning to launch its second Apple Watch in 2016.
The device may also allegedly feature a FaceTime video camera.
