Microsoft used its E3 2015 press conference to confirm that it has partnered with Valve to ensure the ValveVR system supports Windows 10 games.
At a press conference light on PC and Windows games news as Xbox took centre stage, not much time was spent elaborating on the tie up.
What Microsoft did say was that it "will be working closely with Valve to make Windows 10 the best platform for VR gaming."
The company had already announced last week that it has partnered with ValveVR rival Oculus to bundle Xbox One controllers with the Oculus Rift headsets, so that games running on the console could be streamed to said headsets via a Windows 10 PC.
The other main takeaways from Microsoft’s E3 press conference were:
- As expected, a new release in the Gears of War franchise, Gears 4, was previewed and given a release date of ‘holiday season’ 2016.
- Microsoft announced that all PC mods for upcoming title Fallout 4 will also be made available free of charge on the Xbox One.
- In a nod to Steam’s Early Access endeavour for PC gamers, Microsoft said that Xbox Game Preview will allow console gamers to buy games before they are completed and are still in active development.
- Excitingly, a new version of Minecraft is on the way that utilises Microsoft’s Hololens technology to render the game in 3D in the real world.
- Xbox One will shortly become backwards compatible with Xbox360 games, meaning gamers will be able to play their favourite old games on the newer console for no extra charge.
