Consumers buy big following ITV’s Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera programme

Dashboard camera sales soar 500% in Maplin

UK electronics retailer Maplin has announced a significant increase in dashboard camera sales following a car crash TV programme.

Sales of the in-car devices rose by 510 per cent this March, as more people are wanting to record their journeys for insurance purposes – in case of an accident.

ITV’s Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera programme, which was aired last month, has displayed the importance of such cameras if a driver is to get into an accident.

Oliver Meakin, MD of Maplin Direct, commented: “More motorists are investing in dashboard camcorders which can not only reduce motor insurance premiums, but offer extra safety and security measures to drivers.

“Dashboard cameras allow drivers to film bumps and accidents from their own point of view, which can then be used as evidence with the Police and insurance companies.”

The retailer has revealed that its best selling dashboard camera was the Nextbase 402G, which retails at around £150. Sales of that device leapt by 680 per cent in the last month alone.
