Even those who pirated older version of the OS will get the Windows 10 update for free

Pirates to get free upgrade to Windows 10

Microsoft has said that it is okay with letting users who have pirated companies of Windows to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Anyone with a qualified device will have access to the Windows 10 OS update, “genuine and non-genuine”, reports Reuters.

Windows 10 will be available to anyone running Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1, as long as users claim this offer in the first year of the OS’ release.

Terry Myerson, who runs Microsoft’s operating systems unit, said: "We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10."

He said the plan was to "re-engage" with the hundreds of millions of users of Windows in China.

The thought process behind this is that Microsoft will get legitimate versions of Windows on as many PCs as possible, especially across China where the rate of unlicensed PC software is at 74 per cent, and in Thailand where it is at 71 per cent.

It was revealed this week that Windows 10 will launch in the summer
