CEO says firm has the most well-thought-out plans ever this Christmas

Dixons expects Black Friday ‘mayhem’, is excited by IoT revolution

PC World and Currys parent Dixons Carphone is expecting Black Friday (tomorrow, November 28th) to lead its second biggest sales weekend of the year.

Sebastian James, CEO of the group, said in a Retail Week column that the Internet of Things, connected devices and changing shopper habits makes him optimistic for Christmas this year.

"Customers will be discerning and they will shop in new ways," he said. "Not just ordering online and getting stuff delivered at home, but even the timing of shopping has changed.

"Last year we saw Black Friday become our third largest sales weekend, after Boxing Day and Easter. This year I think it will be the second. We certainly have some truly astonishing deals and the most well-thought-out plans ever, but I think the whole market will be positively mayhem.

"We will then see the couple of weeks running up to Christmas relatively quiet as the last-minute dads now have until 8am on Christmas Eve to order for delivery in time for Christmas."

James also spoke about a day "very soon" when all connected devices will be controlled through a single interface, referring to The Internet of Things.

"This is the quiet revolution of technology: not what it does for the few but how it makes the lives of everybody better."
