Areas to offer hands-on experience with smart devices

Dixons rolls out ‘Smart Tech’ sections in Currys and PC World stores

Dixons Retail is to introduce ‘Smart Tech’ zones to five of its Currys and PC World outlets.

The Staples Corner, Thurrock, Cribbs Causeway, Stockton and J9 stores will be the ‘first of their kind in the country’, said Dixons.

The areas will be divided into four category pillars: Smart Home, Smart Health, Smart Watches and Smart Gadgets, and will offer consumers a new hands-on experience to try out innovative products in a dedicated space.

Firms including Heatmiser, Jawbone, NetGear and Sphero have already signed up to have a presence in the sections.

Katie Bickerstaffe, CEO of Dixons Retail UK and Ireland, said: "The future is here, right now, and it’s connected.

“Our new Smart Tech offering aims to create a fresh and inspiring in-store experience for customers that showcases major advancements in connected consumer technology.

“We know that our customers are looking for convenience and have an ever-growing need for connected products that they can access remotely, as well as the latest gadgets, and these innovative zones offer just that.

“Backed by our colleagues’ expertise and comprehensive support services, including installation, they create a new and refreshed way for people to find out what’s on offer and determine the right products for them."

A dedicated ‘Smart Tech’ area will also be added to the Currys and PC World websites, highlighting similar products to those in-store.

Dixons’ £3.6bn merger with Carphone Warehouse recently experienced a potential setback as UK mobile operator EE was reported to be considering pulling out of its Carphone Warehouse relationship, according to The Telegraph.
