Online sales are set to grow by 16 per cent in the UK in 2014, according to new research by RetailMeNot.
British retailers are projected to ring up £45 billion in online sales throughout the year, with the average shopper set to spend more than £1,000 online in a year for the first time.
According to a report by eMarketer this will continue to grow in 2015 and beyond.
The firm expects online sales in the UK to increase to $86.40 billion (£51bn) in 2015, $94.17 billion (£56bn) in 2016 and $107.71 billion (£64bn) in 2017.
This forecast puts the UK in third place, behind the US and China, for the country with the biggest retail e-commerce sales worldwide.
