Mike Chen talks about his favourite gadgets

In The Hot Seat: Mike Chen, Synology UK

We chat to Synology’s UK MD about his love of Apple products and the future for wearable tech.

Which smartphone do you use?
I use an iPhone 4. It’s a company phone but it works and I will upgrade it when it finally gives up on me.

Do you have a favourite tablet?
iPad 2. For me, I choose to use iOS products because they are actually the first mobiles and tablets that Synology supports with its mobile applications.

What was your favourite gadget growing up?
The Nintendo 64. I remember very clearly that it was the first 3D video games console. Donkey Kong 64 was my favourite game.

What gadget can’t you live without?
Bluetooth speakers. I enjoy music and to be able to stream music wirelessly is relaxing.

If you could change anything in the UK tech industry, what would it be?
I would like to see more connectivity between mobile devices, smartwatches and Google Glass. I think wearable tech and everything that’s visual will be the next step in the game.

Synology has DS Cam which lets you see a live view from your IP cameras. You could potentially put the Google Glasses on and view the feed from your CCTV camera using our DS Cam app. I think we would like to integrate this in the future.
