Report says Sony has already developed a prototype handset

Sony could launch a Windows phone by mid-2014

Sony may release a smartphone running Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS this year, according to a new report.

The Information claims that Sony has already developed a prototype Windows Phone handset and held preliminary discussions with Microsoft.

Sony has exclusively made smartphones powered by Android software for almost four years, but it appears that may change this year. According to a ‘person involved in the talks’, a Sony Windows phone could launch as soon as mid-2014.

The report also suggests that Microsoft plans to work with China’s ZTE to launch low-end Windows Phone handsets in Asia, Europe and the US.
