US shops reporting a lack of stock, with units still available at UK stores

Stores seeing Microsoft Surface 2 sellout

Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablet seems to be selling out at many stores in the US in the run-up to Christmas.

As spotted by Mashable, Microsoft’s own online store states that every model of both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are currently unavailable, joining major chain stores Walmart and local Best Buy establishments in a dearth of the devices.

Amazon.com is also reporting a lack of stock.

However, UK stores don’t appear to be seeing the same demand for the tablet.

Currys and PC World have both the Surface 2 and the Pro 2 available for collection in-store and home delivery, while Microsoft’s UK online store has only sold out of the 64GB and 256GB models of the higher-priced Pro 2.

Supermarket giant Tesco and catalogue-touting retailer Argos also have all models of the device freely available.

Why the tablet is seeing a sellout in America is yet to made clear, as is whether the device will start to see a similar boom in sales over here.
