‘123456’ revealed as password of 2m hacked Adobe customers

The top passwords used by Adobe customers have been listed – with super-simple codes filling the top 20.

The list of passwords was released by ‘password security expert’ Jeremi Gosney of the Stricture Group.

Gosney said that he found the passwords in a dump file online following Adobe’s statement that three million passwords had been taken in a security breach.

The number of affected users has since been updated by Adobe to be closer to 38 million, with up to 150 million possibly at risk.

Of the passwords contained in the file found by Gosney, nearly two million (1,911,938) used the most popular password string – ‘123456’.

Coming in at number two with just under half a million users (446,162) was the just as simple, but longer, ‘123456789’.

‘Password’ completes the top three, with 345,834 users.

It’s not just the top three that creates cause for worry, however, as the rest of the most popular passwords are as simplistic.
