New tablets offer more pixels per inch than the latest iPad

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX UK pre-orders open

Pre-orders for Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX have opened in the UK ahead of the tablet’s November 13th launch.

The HDX comes in two versions, a 7-inch model and an 8.9-inch model. Both tablets run on a new Fire 3.0 Mojito operating system, have Wi-Fi and 4G LTE Wireless options, and come in 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB storage options.

As well as being thinner, lighter and faster than previous models, the tablets’ displays have a pixel density of 339 ppi and 4 million pixels – meaning more pixels per inch than the latest iPad.

The tablets boast 100 per cent sRGB color accuracy and dynamic image contrast.

To help users who have not owned a tablet before, the Kindles come with a feature called ‘Mayday’, which lets users speak to a live customer service representative in a video window.

The 7-inch model has a starting price of £199, while the larger device starts from £329.
