Popstar to open chain of mobile phone stores

Jennifer Lopez teams up with Verizon to launch Latino mobile brand Viva Movil

J-Lo has announced that she has teamed up with Verizon Wireless to open a chain mobile phone stores in the US aimed at the Latino population.

The store staff will be bilingual and the company promises a ‘culturally relevant’ experience, said Viva Movil.

The popstar and actress is the marketing face of the brand as well as its chief creative officer. "It was a no-brainer to finally cater to an overlooked segment of the population that has emerged, to actually do something that caters specifically to them," Lopez said in an interview with LA Times.

Viva Movil has already begun to sell smartphones, tablets and Verizon wireless plans on its website and the first physical store is set to open in New York on June 15th.

J-Lo isn’t the first celeb to get involved in the mobile phone industry. Earlier this year BlackBerry announced Alicia Keys as its creative director. A short while after some mysterious tweets appeared on her account apparently sent via an iPhone
