Yahoo has implemented a new ‘no work from home policy’ in a move that it claims will “improve communications and operations”.
According to All Things D, the vendor sent out a memo ordering all remote workers to relocate to corporate offices – bucking a wider trend in the industry to allow more work from home.
“To become the absolute best place to work, communication and collaboration will be important, so we need to be working side-by-side. That is why it is critical that we are all present in our offices,” reads the memo.
“Some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions, meeting new people, and impromptu team meetings. Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home. We need to be one Yahoo!, and that starts with physically being together.”
However, the company’s CEO Marissa Mayer has caught some criticism over the ruling – unlike many of her employees, the working mother is able to balance work and home life as she had a nursery built in her office.
