Prior to its launch next month, it would seem that there’s no shortage of people who are voicing their disapproval of Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 8.
Notch – or Markus Persson to those unfamiliar – is the co-founder of indie game developer Mojang, the firm responsible for the massively popular first-person sandbox title Minecraft.
Persson is no stranger to controversy, and has aired his slightly negative opinion of the new OS on more than one occasion.
Taking to his Twitter account, Notch tweeted to his followers: "Got an email from Microsoft wanting to help ‘certify’ Minecraft for Windows 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform."
He continued his attack on the OS with a further message, stating he would: "rather have Minecraft not run on Windows 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to Windows 8 that way."
It would be interesting to see how many users would be deterred from Windows 8 if a cult title such as Minecraft did not appear on the platform – something that Notch is keen to see too, judging by these recent comments.
Notch is just one of many high-profile personalities within the games industry to voice their concerns over Windows 8, as co-founder of Valve Gabe Newell sparked the debate over the OS back in July, stating that it would be "a catastrophe" for those working in the PC space.
For those users still wanting to play their favourite titles on Windows 8, all is not lost.
Blizzard Entertainment bucked the trend this week by backing the OS, which assured users that the firm would support Microsoft’s latest operating system with its games.
Score that 2 – 1 to the angry games executives waiting outside of Microsoft HQ, fiery pitchforks in hand.
