Nokia claims the Lumia 920 is ‘the most innovative smartphone in the world’

Nokia and Microsoft unveil Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8

Nokia has just announced its new Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 at a New York event co-hosted by Microsoft.

We all had a pretty strong suspicion that the event’s main focus would be Windows Phone 8, and we weren’t disappointed.

Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia took to the stage to present the Lumia 920 calling it ‘The Windows Phone 8 flagship’.

Claiming that the new handset is ‘the most innovative smartphone in the world’, Harlow went through some of the new features on Nokia’s latest model.

Pure View captures between 5 and 10 times the amount of light as any other smartphone competitors’ camera. The Lumia 920’s floating lens technology stabilises video, providing more professional looking videos than on previous models.

Nokia Maps features free voice guided turn by turn navigation and Nokia Transport supplies departure times as well as route and walking directions between stops.

On the 4.5-inch curved glass display Pure Motion HD+ provides blur-free scrolling as well as sunlight readability enhancement to combat glare.

The Lumia 920 has a 2000 mAh battery, Qualcom Snapdragon s4, and built in wireless charging.

By using the ‘fatboy recharge pillow’, users can charge their phone wirelessly. Nokia has done a number of deals with companies like Virgin Atlantic to provide wireless charging plates in their lounges.

“This is Lumia and it is time to switch,” said Harlow to the sound of a lot of cheering and clapping from the crowd.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore then took to the stage to demonstrate the new features on Windows Phone 8 OS.

This includes better integration with the cloud, various lenses in camera mode, facial recognition, and more customisation of the layout and home screen in particular.

“We want to deliver the most personal experience anyone can get on a smartphone,” said Belfiore.
