Groupon offers will be displayed on Nokia’s maps function

Nokia teams up with Groupon to promote deals on Lumia phone maps

Groupon has partnered with Nokia to build its real-time Groupon Now! offers into the maps function on Lumia smartphones.

The new feature shows Groupon Now! offers on Nokia maps with a green ‘G’ icon. Lumia owners in the US will be able to buy offers from their phones.

Selecting a deal calls up more information about the participating merchant and supplies directions on how to get there.

The new location platform will be integrated into the phone’s Windows Phone 8 operating system, rather than just being an application that runs on a Windows phone, as all other Nokia navigation products currently do.

"It is to our benefit to ensure that many different companies use this, and there will be companies taking advantage of the platform who may compete with other elements of Nokia," said Stephen Elop, Nokia.

Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8 in June and said phones running the new software would become available in autumn.
