Bosses get sporting legend in to motivate staff

Linford Christie gets Currys and PC World staff into shape for the Olympics rush

Dixons has commissioned a workout video by Linford Christie to help motivate Currys and PC World workers.

With shop workers expecting to be rushed off their feet this summer due to customers buying the latest technology to watch the Games on, Christie has created a training video to help keep staff fit, healthy and motivated.

"You never realise how long store staff have to stand on the shop floor for each day and how much they have to lift, carry and do – it’s all added stress on the body and a handful of simple stretches at the start of each shift, supplemented with regular exercise, can make all the difference," commented Christie. "When I was originally approached for this I went into it all guns blazing, ready to push them to their limits as I would any high-performance athlete – but I was impressed, they were fitter than I thought!"

Christie took to the shop floor in Currys and PC World’s Tottenham Court Road store in London to film the training video. He worked out with a selection of staff amongst the TVs and toasters.

Currys and PC World’s UK retail Director Alan Ritchie explained the idea behind the staff morale boost: “We have over 20,000 colleagues across the business – all playing their part during an epic summer of sport. Every one of them is vital to providing the excellent in-store and online experience we offer our customers. We want them all, store managers right through to weekend temps, to stay fit, healthy and engaged throughout the summer as they cope with additional workload we are expecting.”
