Local government agencies in San Francisco will no longer be able to buy Apple Macs if city officials have their way.
What’s the issue? Apple has pulled its products from green certification scheme EPEAT that was created to identify which devices pose the least risk to the environment.
Since then, officials with the San Francisco Department of Education have decided that they will inform all 50 all of the city’s agencies that Apple products will no longer qualify for purchasing with city funds – perhaps a move that will get Apple to reconsider.
Apple removed its products from the EPEAT registry late last month.
Chief information officer Jon Walton told the BBC that his decision was in line with a long running policy to opt for equipment listed on the EPEAT registry. He said: "San Francisco has reached out to Apple and is hopeful that a solution to this challenge can be found in the future."
