Apple is no longer registering its products with the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), the leading green consumer electronic standard in the USA.
According to iFixit.org, the website which did a breakdown of the new MacBook Pro and found it to be one of the worst devices on the market for repairs, Apple had quietly removed the EPEAT certification from its marketing material.
“Apple has notified EPEAT that it is withdrawing its products from the EPEAT registry and will no longer be submitting its products to EPEAT for environmental rating,” read a statement from the EPEAT organisation”
“We regret that Apple will no longer be registering its products in EPEAT. We hope that they will decide to do so again at some point in future.”
Apple’s withdrawal from the standard means that its hardware is no longer eligible for use by US federal agencies as their purchasing policies state that EPEAT-registered products must be shown preference.
