New tablet features full multi-touch keyboard inside its cover

Microsoft lifts lid on much-expected tablet

As expected, Microsoft last night announced the Surface device.

In what was a very intimate event complete with thumping ‘fashion show’ music, Microsoft unveiled details about its tablet called simply ‘Surface’.

Microsoft’s Surface is a super-thin 9.3mm, features a full magnesium case (The first PC to do so) and full size USB 2.

The liquid metal is formed into an ultra rigid and light frame, weighing in at 1.5 lbs.

The 10.6-inch display allows for emantic zoom and is optimised for Windows 8.

One of the new applications featured on Surface is Netflix. With film watching in mind, the tablet has its very own kickstand built into its body.

With Gorilla Glass and a full multi-touch keyboard on the inside of the cover, which is only 3mm thick, Microsoft is aiming for a portable PC for use anywhere.

The multi-touch keyboard is apparently twice as efficient as typing on glass. If keyboards aren’t your thing, then you can detach the cover and go touchscreen.

HDMI is built into the device too, along with a front and rear camera.

Surface will come in two models – Surface for Windows RT and Surface for Windows Pro.
