Korean electronics giant LG apparently believes that bigger is better with the launch of the LG Optimus 4X HD sporting a massive 4.7-inch screen and a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.
Apparently wanting in on the hand-busting phone action of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Optimus 4X HD has the same size screen and the same resolution of 1280 x 720 although LG is going for IPS LCD rather than Samsung’s AMOLED.
The handset is also the first announced to feature the Nvidia Tegra 3, a quad-core processor with a fifth ‘companion core’ for low power tasks. The phone is also shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
"Speed in itself isn’t what makes LG Optimus 4X HD unique, it’s the benefit we’re bringing to customers with the HD multimedia experience in a mobile form factor," said LG mobile boss Jong-seok Park.
It seems LG isn’t following Samsung’s lead in shipping the device with an absurdly tiny battery, the Optimus 4X HD comes with 2,150mAh unit compared to the 1,750mAh of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. If the usual power advantage of LCD comes into play, you might even get a whole day out of this one.
