The Aldi retail chain in Australia was forced to recall a batch of external hard drives after they were found to be infected by a virus.
The German supermarket chain has made great inroads into the Australian market with a business model that involves selling gadgets and IT products alongside groceries.
One such IT product was the 4-in-1 320GB hard drive, USB hub, memory card reader and CD/DVD burner which was priced at AUD$99. Sadly the hard drive came pre installed with the Conflicker worm.
Fortunately Conflicker is sufficiently old that it’s well addressed by any sort of anti virus software. Aldi recommended that customers run anti virus software, pointing users to the free AVG.
"Customers who have purchased the product can return it to the store where they bought it to receive a full refund," they added.
The 4-in-1 drive was supplied to Aldi by local distributor Smart IT Australia.
