Two games and bonus content to make waves in September

Monkey Island Special Edition sets sail for retail

LucasArts and Activision have announced that, for the first time, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will be combined into one retail package.

Previously, the games have been available as online purchases only – but with exclusive extras in the form of bonus content from the LucasArts vault, Activision hopes there is plenty to draw consumers to the retail version.

Both special editions include new ‘re-imagined’ HD graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voice-over and a new hint system. And just in case people want to hark back to the old style, players can flick back to the classic version of the game in an instant.

Monkey Island 2 also features direct control, so that players can – as the name might suggest – take direct control of Guybrush Threepwood if they so desire. Original creators Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman provide an in-game audio commentary, too.

The Monkey Island Special Edition Collection includes never-before seen concept art from both games and players will also get storyboards and concept art from an Industrial Light & Magic exploration of a Monkey Island movie that was never released.

The new collection will be released on September 9th for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
