Report says BT is providing the data

Rightmove to add broadband speeds to property listings

The largest British property website Rightmove is to team up with BT in order to list the potential internet speeds of the million homes listed on the website at any one time, according to a Telegraph report.

Despite Rightmove denying that the site had any form of partnership with BT and the telco also refusing to comment, the Telegraph claimed that Rightmove plans to list potential ADSL speeds along side other specifications such as bedrooms and garages.

The report also says that availability of BT’s new fibre-based 40 megabit/s BT Infinity service would also be listed. However ISPreview pointed out that BT’s own database would not tell the whole story, failing to include connection information from rivals such as cable ISP Virgin Media.

With 90 per cent of British real estate sales appearing on Rightmove, it’s likely that all broadband providers will want to draw attention to the availability of services to prospective home buyers.
