British Apple designer ‘Jony’ Ive is rumoured to be considering a move back to the UK at a time when he is also reportedly being considered as a possible successor of sick-leave CEO Steve Jobs.
The Mirror said that iPod-designer Ive had a three-year "Golden Handcuffs" deal which is set to net the 44 year-old a cool £18 million, taking the design prodigy’s net worth to a reported £80 million.
The Mirror claims "sources" said that Ive wants to spend more time in the UK with his wife and two sons. A Times report suggested that Ive’s desire to spend more time in the UK put the designer at "loggerheads" with Apple’s senior management.
The Times quoted a friend of Ives who claimed that he was "just too valuable to Apple", with the firm reportedly claiming to have told Ive that he would not be able to retain his position if he did move back to the UK.
Ives moved to California in 1992 to work for Apple as the firm’s chief designer.
