Updated HTC Incredible set to arrive in Europe

HTC refreshes smartphone range

Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC launched three new Android smartphones at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona.

The HTC Desire S, Wildfire S and Incredible S are updates of the firm’s existing Android smartphones and each leans heavily on HTC Sense, the firm’s custom front end software for Android.

"HTC developed the HTC Sense experience to bring cutting-edge innovation to our customers in simple and natural ways that just make sense – this is what HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire S and HTC Incredible S represent best," said HTc boss Peter Chou.

The Desire S is the latest in the firm’s hugely successful high-end Android smartphone. This time shifting to a solid aluminium milled chassis and adding Qualcomm’s faster Snapdragon MSM8255 system-on-chip, clocked at 1GHz.

At the lower end of the market, the Wildfire S is the successor to the phone credited for bringing Android smartphone power to a wider audience. HTC has incorporated a welcome boost to the Wildfire’s miserly QVGA screen, doubling it to to a usable half VGA resolution 3.2-inch screen.

Then there’s the range topping Incredible S, sporting a large 4-inch WVGA screen, forward facing camera and an unusually quirky contoured rear panel. The Incredible S is also notable for design touches including a buttonless front facia that uses software to draw (and rotate) the standard Android buttons.

The Incredible S is also able to capture videos and photos with the phone’s beefy 8 megapixel camera and share them along with music direct to a TV via DLNA technology.

The previous HTC Incredible wasn’t seen outside of the US so the updated Incredible S will be a new arrival in Europe.

HTC said that the Desire S, Wildfire S and Incredible S smartphones would be available "across major European and Asian markets" during the second quarter.

"These new phones offer an exhilarating mix of style, innovation and features that extend people’s mobile experience in ways that feel personal and completely original," said Chou.
