Digital imaging specialist Canon has launched two Rebel digital SLR cameras including the new flagship called the Canon Rebel T3 and T3i in North America and the EOS 600D and 1100D in Europe.
The Canon Rebel T3i/EOS 600D is based on an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor from the EOS 60D and boasts a number of high definition video recording modes including the ability to record 1080p at 24, 30 or 25 frames per second.
The camera offers an automatic modes called Basic+ and Creative Auto which aims to detect types of scenes and select appropriate modes, a feature first pioneered in Canon’s PowerShot range.
The entry-level Canon Rebel T3/EOS 1100D is based on a 12.1 megapixel sensor and includes the same scene detection modes as the T3i. Video is limited on the T3 to 720p video at 30 or 25 frames per second.
Canon said that the T3/1100D was designed to grow with the user as their photography skills improve and offers an entry point into the world of DSLR photography with more than 60 different lenses and accessories such as Speedlight flashes available.
In the UK the EOS 600D would be around £679 for the body only while the EOS 1100D will cost £419 for the body and around £459 bundled with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.
The cameras will be available in the US in March with the body only Rebel T3i costing around $799 while the Rebel T3 will cost $599 with the EF-S 18-55mm lens.
