Outsells Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Kindle is Amazon’s best selling product ever

Amazon announced on Monday that the third generation Kindle e-reader is the e-tailer’s best ever selling product, surpassing the previous record holder of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Amazon said that Christmas Day marked the peak activity of users registering new Kindles and buying books than any previous day in the year, pointing to a great many of the new model Kindles padding out stockings this Christmas.

“We’re grateful to the millions of customers who have made the all-new Kindle the bestselling product in the history of Amazon," said Amazon boss Jeff Bezos.
Bezos went on the offensive comparing the Kindle to LCD-based tablets such as the Apple iPad, saying that “many” of the people who had bought Kindles also owned an LCD tablet.

“They report preferring Kindle for reading because it weighs less, eliminates battery anxiety with its month-long battery life,” said Bezos selling up the Kindle over LCD rivals, saying the e-ink display reduces eye-strain and works in direct sunlight which Bezos said was “an important consideration especially for vacation reading.”

Amazon said that “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was the best selling Kindle book on Christmas Day while “The Dork Diaries” gained the most popularity on Christmas Day.

Other than the Kindle, Amazon’s other bestselling electronics device was the Apple iPod touch 8GB while software wise Anime Studio Debut 7, Manga Studio Debut 4 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 were the best selling software packages, the firm said.
