Over half of the users are outside of the US says LinkedIn boss

LinkedIn hits 85 million users, adds another every second

Business social networking site LinkedIn revealed that the firm now has 85 million members and is adding a new member every second.

Speaking at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner said that the service was adding users at the fastest rate ever, adding that it took the site 477 days to hit one million members but just 9 days for the most recent.

LinkedIn focuses on business related information and contacts, displaying information such as education background, employment history and recommendations on personal profiles. LinkedIn is also a prime hunting ground for firms recruiting new talent or employees looking for new jobs.

Weiner said the company had now achieved critical mass of users and that over a half of the site’s members came from outside of the United States. The business social networking boss also said that he saw no pressing need to connect LinkedIn with Facebook.
