New handset-compatible store goes live on Monday

John Lewis creates mobile website

UK retailer John Lewis is ramping up its mobile strategy, with a new, specially optimised website.

The mobile version of the main John Lewis site goes live next Monday October 11th, and will allow customers to buy products and find their nearest shop.

The site is part of a longer-term mobile strategy: John Lewis says it plans to ‘understand customers’ needs’ before considering what to do in the apps space.

However, in its announcement, John Lewis said that the technology behind the mobile site will be used for an app focused “more on the experience and personal relationship that customers have with the retailer”.

"Our customers’ appetite for mobile commerce has grown enormously and our focus has been on developing a site with a seamless experience," says head of online selling Jonathon Brown.

"Mobile is a vital part of our vision to become the leading multi-channel retailer in the UK, so watch this space for future developments."
