Nikon has launched the new P7000 digital camera which now occupies the top of the range spot in the Japanese firm’s compact prosumer range.
Incorporating a new 10.1-megapixel sensor, the P7000 goes head to head with products like Canon’s PowerShot G11 prosumer compact. The P7000 is armed with an optical 7.1 zoom wide angle 28mm equivalent lens, anti-shake technology and new Expeed C2 image processor.
"The Coolpix P7000 represents the best of both worlds. It is an exciting compact camera offering from Nikon, as it not only provides expanded creative control found in digital SLR cameras, but also provides photo enthusiasts with the portability and simplicity of Coolpix digital cameras," said Nikon marketing director Bo Kajiwara.
As a high end compact, the P7000 offers many DSLR-like features with extensive manual control modes, RAW shooting capability and even a new 720p video movie mode and a microphone in jack which which combined with continuous autofocus make be quite servicable as a video camera.
The P7000 will hit retail on the 23rd of September and will cost a little less than 500 in dollars or pounds sterling.
