Amazon has announced that it will be offering TV shows – to own – for the same price that Apple is offering its TV rentals.
According to Pocket Lint, as well as offering a more permanent transaction, the e-tailer will allow its downloads to be used on a wider variety of devices, including IPTV sets from Sony, Panasonic and Samsung and set-top boxes from Roku and TiVo.
The move apparently trumps Apple’s recently announced offering of rentals for 99 cents on its new Apple TV set-top box, as Amazon’s movie rentals are also cheaper, costing $2.99 compared to Apple’s $4.99.
Unfortunately, at this time both services are only available in the US.
